I to have had struggles at "family events". One thing I read on the subject said basically, whatever fear pops into your head....don't act on it right away and eventually the worries will lessen as you continue to "face your fears"
(it sounds like you are trying that already). Also, another thing I read talks about reading the bible and memorizing all the verses where it talks about trusting God and thus avoiding struggles with all the "what ifs" in life. Hope this helps.Marandanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4180443944080254295.post-91946548987630571592014-09-25T13:51:44.146-07:002014-09-25T13:51:44.146-07:00Just dropped by to see your progress :)

Just go and wash your clothes when you come home! Thinking of contaminating your car? Just wipe them off.

You'll be glad you saw your grandpa!Johnnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4180443944080254295.post-41645615062926712282014-09-22T17:23:48.099-07:002014-09-22T17:23:48.099-07:00I hear my old self in your post. That was me about...I hear my old self in your post. That was me about 3-4 years ago. I'm happy to say that is not me anymore. Which also means that it will not be you someday either.

I understand the guilt. I lived in that head space for many, many years. Honestly, the past is just the past. There is not a single, tiny thing we can possibly do to change it. We can only move forward. And so I have worked very hard to refuse to allow myself to feel the guilt (most of the time!) for the simple reason that it only makes me feel worse and hinders me from moving forward. And it doesn't make anything better for my loved ones. In fact, it makes things worse for them.

Would you consider sharing this with your parents and your sister? Perhaps they can offer you some additional support that you clearly need. You would need to educate them - books, maybe documentaries, etc. But if they could understand the horror you live with every day, it may go a long way towards your recovery. Anyway, just a thought.

And yes, it is an invisible illness. Which simply adds to the pain. I get really annoyed with those rude OCD posts too. Now I say stuff about it (I'm totally "out" about my illness). It doesn't always go over well when I speak up, but I always try to do it politely, and hey, if someone wants to be mad at me cause I spoke up for all of us sufferers, then so be it.71º & Sunnyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09981113989131619635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4180443944080254295.post-11338670667871739912014-09-13T15:46:34.133-07:002014-09-13T15:46:34.133-07:00I 100% know what you mean by people mocking things...I 100% know what you mean by people mocking things like OCD and depression. These are serious ilnesses that can harm people as much as something like PTSD -- which is finally being taken seriously. Yes for people who have minor tics and then claiming they are OCD compared to those of us who have been diagnosed and require therapy and/or meds, it's especially aggravating, but there is a huge community out here of people who know what you're going through, who we are going through and we know we're strong simply by the virtue of we can go through this and live :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
